Twenty-five years of being an Arts Educator have given me a lot of practice playing with every medium imaginable. Over the last few years my students asked over and over again to paint papers and make collages like Eric Carle and Henri Matisse. These projects resulted in striking, fun, imaginative artworks that we exhibited to the delight of their parents, teachers and our little arts community.
I always started these lessons with a demonstration project and had a small collection of these animal pieces in my own studio. After retiring from public school teaching this year, I continue to make these painted paper collages and now have an Ark-full ! I was asked by Arts For Rural Texas in Fayetteville http://www.artsforruraltexas.org to have my first solo show in their Ross Gallery in January 2014. The title of this show will be "Tails from the Ark". So all of the animal pieces you see here will be included in this upcoming show, along with several other pieces done in the same technique. I was born in Red Wing, Minnesota, grew up in Rockford, Illinois where I graduated from an all-girls Dominican high school. I got to Texas as fast as I could, graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now named Texas State University) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and then a Visual Arts Studies all-level teaching certificate from the University of Texas at Austin. Whew! My long teaching career has taken me to public and private schools, art camps, private lessons and I even did five years as an Artist-in Residence through Texas Commission on the Arts. But now I make my own art in a little studio upstairs under the eaves in our little old log cabin deep in the Heart of Texas under the watchful eye of a fluffy old doggie.
Just so you'll know, all of my work is original, done only by me and copyrighted. Please be nice and do not borrow, copy or steal my work. ------You wouldn't like it either! ~do not, under any circumstances, pin my images to pinterest.
